Digital Island win at Fast 500 Awards

Online retailer NZ's fastest-growing tech company

Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500 2008 Winner logoThirty-one New Zealand companies were last night named among the 500 fastest growing technology companies in Asia Pacific.

Hamilton-based online bike retailer Torpedo7 led the Kiwi contingent in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific awards for 2008, in 87th place with growth of 571 per cent over three years. It was joined in the top 100 by Auckland-based telco Digital Island which came in 89th with 553 per cent growth.

Rankings of the fast-growing companies are based on the percentage of growth in fiscal year revenues from 2005 to 2007. In 2007 there were 38 New Zealand-based companies ranked in the Technology Fast 500, with 31 making the cut in 2006 and 23 in 2005.

Average revenue growth rate across all 500 fastest-growing technology companies in Asia Pacific reached 707 per cent over the period, the highest level of growth since Deloitte started its rankings in 2002. The most prevalent industry sectors were software (139 of the 500 companies), semiconductors/components/electronics (127) and telecommunications/networking (85).

The rankings were dominated by Taiwan (112 companies out of the 500), South Korea (100) and India (76). Australia had 45 companies in the Fast 500. Mainland China had six companies ranked among the 10 fastest growing companies.

New Zealand online auction site Trade Me returns for the sixth consecutive year, ranked 428th with growth of 134 per cent.
