New Zealand-owned and operated telecommunications service provider, Digital Island, points to the skills of its employees as a major contributor to its success with customers in the country’s medium-sized business market.
Sales Manager Scott Liu has been with Digital Island for three years. “At Digital Island we say we are the smart choice for business phones and Internet. This is based on our ability to review a business’ telecommunications services and accounts to see if they are receiving the right services at the right prices. We often find that we are able to improve customer satisfaction levels on both counts.”
New Zealand is a multi-cultural country and each cultures approaches things in a slightly different way. My job is to build key stakeholder relationships within the Asian business community and align these with Digital Island’s ability to provide excellent services.”
Nicole has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Auckland University. She says, “As a marketing person, I like meeting different people; as a member of the Digital Island team, I enjoy the working environment as we are like a family.”
Wei has a Masters degree in Management Services, specialising in finance. “Digital Island provides the opportunity to learn even more than what you would hope for. There’s a real energy about the place and its people. That translates into wanting to do the best for our customers.”
Accounts Manager Wei Hou says, “One of the reasons why people like to do business with Digital Island is because our customers can easily understand their account. Our simple, clear accounts and processes enable people to get on and focus on running their business, without spending ages trying to understand accounts. This is something that many other service providers struggle to get right, leaving their customers to struggle due to the complexity of the telecommunications industry.”
Nicole Lin is Marketing Manager Asian Markets. “My role combines a background in marketing and business studies with a firsthand knowledge of the way the Asian market likes to do business.
Scott is part of a 10-strong sales team. He describes his role as “leading by example to sell our services. You need excellent time management, sales and mentoring skills. My background includes a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and finance, from Auckland University. I’ve always enjoyed the business world and my job here at Digital Island combines my sales experience and academic skills to help us service our commercial clients based on a deep degree of understanding of their business.”
“New Zealand’s medium and smaller sized businesses often rely heavily on the ability of their service suppliers, nowhere more so than in the telecommunications area,” General Manager Blair Stewart says. “Digital Island's aim is to always deliver quality service to our customer base and one of the keys is having the right staff in all areas. It means the business delivers right across the board.”
