Telecom Wholesale profile Digital Island's MVNO

A perfect fit - Digital Island and Telecom Wholesale's MVNO

18 August 2010

Being able to offer Telecom's 3G mobile service is a great leap forward for Digital Island.

"Adding mobile to our offerings is absolutely key and Telecom Wholesale's service has been rock-solid," according to Blair Stewart, founding partner and general manager.

It's opened up a huge range of new customers. Before we added mobile to our range of offerings we'd have to walk away from about half of our prospective customers, because they want to deal with just one provider. "

"Our customers want to deal with one company - one bill, one point of contact and the ability to benefit from price improvements, equipment choices, and calling and data plans."

Digital Island started trialling Telecom Wholesale's MVNO Solution, using the WCDMA network, to their Auckland small-to-medium enterprise customers in April. The company now offers the full suite of tailored services and solutions including calling, fixed lines, internet and data services, and 3G mobile services.

We work with our partners to make sure everything hooks together so our customers have the right technology, the best savings and the level of support and service that other suppliers reserve for corporate customers. "

Going that extra mile is why Digital Island's churn rates are much lower than their competitors - that, and selecting partners carefully, on the basis of reputation and ability to deliver. "There are a tonne of cowboys out there, so doing a professional job and using the best suppliers is critical."

Blair says the Digital Island team has built a high level of trust with its customers over the company's six-year history. "This is a very competitive, ever-changing market. Keeping our pricing fluid has worked well."

Adding mobile to its product suite has proven a complex challenge, mainly because of the intricacies of billing. The good news is that provisioning is easy.

Smartphones are the tools of choice for business people of all levels and types. And now there is more choice than ever, as handsets based on Google's Android mobile operating system are becoming increasingly popular in New Zealand. Android handsets provide seamless access to common Google applications such as Gmail, Google docs and maps, as well as heaps of more sophisticated applications via the Android Market.

"Everyone is using them, so they are always connected. We've gone way beyond just executive teams having them; they are essential business tools," Blair says.

Telecom Wholesale's acting CEO Nick Clarke says providing a mobile virtual network operator service completes the offering of telecommunications services.

"Our MVNO solution offers our service provider customers simple competitive pricing that can be tailored to suit different segments so they can differentiate themselves in the market.

This means our customers can now offer their customers the full range of telecommunications services. And Digital Island is proof of how much their customers like it. "
