Welcome to the new financial year!

It’s all go around here with several very exciting developments taking place, particularly in Mobile and Premium Data.
100 Mbps Data Circuits! In the old days these were reserved for supplying large scale data centres and ISP’s. We are pleased to introduce these ultra fast connections for our business clients, and if you are based in the CBD we can provide these at most sites for under $1,250 + gst per month! (Also enquire about 10 Mbps options which rock in at half the price of 100Mbps in many cases)
Fat Boy Mobile! In order to lead the market we've introduced DigiSmart Grande, a complete mobile plan for heavy users, with 1000 minutes / 2000 texts / 200MB data all for $159 + gst. Come over from voda and you'll pocket a FREE Samsung Galaxy S. (Of course this plan is great for iPhones and Blackberries too).

What about SIP?
One of the most common questions we get asked from both our partners and customers is ‘Where is the NZ telco industry at with SIP trunking?’
This question generally comes from the fact that although Digital Island promotes SIP as the best voice access solution, it is still not commonly available from any of the large telcos like Telecom, Voda or Telstra. This often gives the impression that SIP isn’t a main stream or proven technology, or that the major NZ telcos have chosen for a some good reason not to offer SIP trunks in the NZ market.
Without question, Digital Island considers SIP trunking to commercially and technically be the best voice access option for businesses with UC/PBX solutions, and as such it should be the default choice for all new sites. However to ensure SIP trunks exceed the quality and reliability of the ISDN services they are often replacing, they must be delivered over data circuits with SLAs, and the appropriate network hardware, configured and maintained to a high standard.
As a result of the data circuit requirement, this generally means that the numbers on SIP trunking make sense for businesses who require 4+ voice channels, and/or have the requirement for a high grade data circuit.
Digital Island has installed a significant number of SIP trunk sites over the past 12 months, and in every case the customer has benefited from cost reductions in access and calling, without a drop in call quality or reliability.
As to why SIP trunking hasn’t started appearing on the product ranges of the large telcos; we actually really aren’t too sure, but we are certain it will appear in future as the market demand increases. The likes of Telecom have huge install bases of legacy PSTN services, generating significant line rental and toll calling revenues. The decision not rush a more efficient technology into the market may therefore be purely commercial.
We have also found from experience that successfully implementing SIP often requires the telco to provide skilled co-ordination of the generally multiple vendors. This is something the large telcos aren’t geared up to do for SMEs.
In summary, Digital Island offers a fantastic SIP trunk service, that we believe every New Zealand business should be seriously considering as part of their 2011 ICT planning!
Please drop either myself or a member of our sales team a line if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Blair Stewart, General Manager

The case for PSTN vs SIP and how you can benefit
The business case for SIP: When discussing SIP with your clients we have found without question the best way to explain the solution is to use a diagram - without it people simply don’t understand!
As shown in this diagram, firstly step the client through their current setup:

Following this second diagram, explain how using Unified Communications (UC) the calls are then routed via the internet. Also be careful to explain the solution is not like skype etc, which can suffer quality issues (unlike this solution):

The Dollars: Listed below in black are actual costs from a company Digital Island recently migrated to SIP, in the green there monthly rates moving forward. As a Digital Island Partner, you will note the significant savings, which the client can then use toward a new PBX or other ITC projects.

If you have any questions or would like support from one of our sales team during a proposal, contact myself or our sales team.
